Shipping donated items to refugee children

We are collecting donated items needed by refugee children arriving in Europe, and this crowdfunding site is to cover the shipping costs. We currently aim to send two or three pallets of donated items to a group working with refugees on the Greek island of Chios.

We are a small group of local people and businesses in Deptford and Greenwich, south east London. We previously sent two pallets of donated items for refugee children arriving on the Greek island of Kos in December 2015. Thankfully, the charity we sent those donations to – Kos Kindness – have confirmed that they have enough children’s clothes for now, and so we would like to send our next shipment to Chios, where warm winter coats, snow suits and other items are desperately needed for refugee children arriving on the island.

Please can you help us to get the donated items to Chios by contributing to this fund for shipping costs? We are looking for the most competitive shipping quote. We previously used DHL’s aid team who ship donations for refugees at cost price – but if we can find a quote to beat this, we will take it! We estimate we will need to raise £500 for two pallets to be shipped. That means 60 boxes of donations, and because we vacuum pack all the items, we can fit a lot in: 400 coats, 120 pairs of boots/shoes with socks and 450 sets of hats & gloves, along with blankets, baby gro-bags and sleeping bags went off in our last 60 boxes!

We have a collection and sorting day at Deptford Salvation Army Hall on Saturday 23rd January 2016 from 10am – 3pm, and two local cafes are also acting as ongoing donation points for us: The Hoy Kitchen on Creek Road in Greenwich, and Deli X on Deptford High Street. Please see our facebook site for more details, and also for details of how you can help out on the 23rd if you would like to come and meet us and get involved!

If we manage to raise more than we need to ship the items we collect, we will donate the surplus funds to Chios Refugee Support for their kitchen which provides hot, nutritious meals to refugees on the island and their rescue team who try to prevent refugees drowning as their boats arrive on Chios.
